Julien Derouault



Julien Derouault starts dance professionally in 1994, at the Conservatory for dance of Le Mans and Angers. In 1996, he joins the Marseille National Superior School of dance, and is hired a few months later by the Ballet National de Marseille directed by Roland Petit.

In 1999, he is made soloist under the direction of Marie-Claude Pietragalla. He performs all the leading roles of the company’s repertoire and works with William Forsythe, Claude Brumachon, Richard Wherlock, Rudi van Dantzig, William Forsythe, Rui Horta...

He is appointed assistant choreographer in 2000, and collaborates to the making of Marie-Claude Pietragalla performances.

He founds with choreographer Marie-Claude Pietragalla in 2005, a new dance company named after their work the Théâtre du Corps.

Together they choreographed:


In 2005Remember..., Les Noces and the Rite of spring for the Singapore Dance Theatre.
In 2006, Fleurs d’automne for the Belgrade National Theatre, Human Conditions celebrating the centenary of the Courrières mine disaster.

In 2007, Sade, theatre of madmen created for Pierre Cardin Lacoste festival.

In 2008, Marco Polo, created for the Beijing Olympics.

In 2009, Temptation of Eve, a solo with Marie-Claude Pietragalla on the history of women.

In 2012, The Chairs ? an adaptation of Eugène Ionesco play in partnership with the Jeunesses Musicales of France and Clowns, a work for the Junior Ballet of the Paris National Conservatory of Music and Dance.
In 2013, Mr & Mrs Dream, a 3D virtual unreality show inspired by the work of Eugène Ionesco.
In 2014, To be or to appear, showcased at the 2014 Avignon festival, and Meeting you was fate.

En 2017, Lorenzaccio (Theatre and Dance) Festival de Grignan
En 2019, The Dancing Woman (A one-woman-show)

Since 2006, he has been directing the videos of the Théâtre du Corps performances.

In 2013, he was trained as an actor at the Cours Florent (3rd year with Benoit Guibert).
